Since we're talking about letters this week I wanted to share a favorite letter-themed baby gift I received. Also, my cousin who is one of my dearest friends, should be having a baby any minute! I'm sooo excited. So today I'm talking letters, babies and gifts!
I take gift giving very seriously. To me, more important than the dollar amount spent, is the time taken and thought given when picking out a gift. I have a few people in my life who are just amazing gift givers. Because of this, I always look forward to getting something from them...whether it's a dollar pack of note cards from the Target end cap or a special book or a homemade CD (with Gene Kelly tunes)...it means that much more to know someone really thought about the gift.
Recently I visited with a good friend and she brought me a baby gift. Here's what the package looked like:
Something else you should know about me? When it comes to gifts, I DO judge a book by its cover. I love pretty wrapping and fun bags. So I adored this sweet little muslin bag with its baby blue ribbon.
I opened the satchel to find handmade wooden blocks that spelled out my son's name. The blocks were crafted by Etsy seller Little Sapling Toys. So simple. So sweet. So personal. Love!

But these blocks are also special because they remind me of my bedroom growing up. My sister and I each had a set of blocks that spelled out our names and sat on our dressers for years. Our blocks were probably purchased at a craft fair in the '80s. They were total "country," painted blue, and had stenciled letters on them.
My son's blocks are a mod, updated version of my stenciled blocks. Did I mention they are organic and all natural? What's not to love? I'm now stealing this idea for my friends who have babies. Sorry friends in advance who might be reading this. Act surprised if you see a sweet little bag with a pretty ribbon on it. And please keep your baby names under 20 letters.
PS If you steal this idea I think you should include a note that reads, "For your new kid on the block." Am I awesome or what?
Mrs. Goslings comment: I have the urge to bust out in "Jenny from the BLOCK" and try a new dance move I have been working on. Another post?!? I like how you display books old and new in Bubba's room. He is so lucky to have a mom like you and a dad like Gene Kelly!
Mrs. Kelly comment: Totally need to buy those for anyone named Jenny.
