Paris in a Frame

Passing Notes Today:  Mrs. Williams

Hey Mrs. G. and Mrs. K.,

This little gift idea starts like all great gift a stranger's basement.  Remember that basement sale where I scooped up the maps of Europe?  I used some of the maps to make a Christmas tree and then I used a map of Paris to make a personalized gift for my best friend, Nicole.  She used to live there...that's right...IN Paris.  I didn't want to just wrap up the map and hand it over to Coley.  Instead, I took the map and my little one to our local frame shop, The Great Frame Up.

We went there to get a matte custom cut to frame out her Metro stop when she lived in Paris.  The woman at the frame shop was super helpful. First, we picked a matte.

Then, we decided on the size of the hole we wanted to cut.

Then, she went to the back of the store to cut the matte.  Here's the major tip:  it's a lot less expensive to have the matte width and height cut to a standard frame size, like 4x6 or 5x7 or 8x10.  Then, after you have your custom matte framing your paper/image, you can sneak off to another store to buy an inexpensive frame.

While she was in the back of the store, my little guy had a blast checking out the frames and playing on the huge magnetic board.

Literally five minutes and $5 later, we were done.

After we were done at the frame shop, my little man and I scooted down to Michael's for a frame.  Just like that, we had a personalized gift for my BFF.

I hope she likes it.  I hope she looks at it and remembers her Paris days.  I hope she doesn't mind that I got it some stranger's basement.

Au Revoir,

Note from Mrs. Gosling:  WHAT AN AMAZING IDEA!  I love that you went to that store (I have always wanted to) and I really love the price.  You are such a thoughtful gifter!

Note from Mrs. Kelly:  You're so smart.  And I'm stealing this idea.
