You Bring Meaning To My Life, You're The Inspiration

Hey Ladies,

I have you both to thank for my little hallway face lift.  Our entryway was boring - just kind of there.

One day I got to thinking, "What would Mrs. Gosling Do?"  WWMGD.

I remembered her snazzy stripes and decided I should get on it already.  I chose the paint color of our living room since I already had it and also, because I thought it would help tie in the rooms.  I taped very carefully.  I measured.  I retaped.  Then I used the existing wall color paint to paint over the taped lines to seal them.  And after that dried, I painted the contrasting bars.  I pulled the tape and surprisingly, it came out awesome.  I love it!

After that was finished, I needed some artwork.  Remember my awesome barn prints I scored at Goodwill for less that ten bucks?  Well, I decided they should go in my entry!  But first, I needed to reframe them.  I then asked myself, "What would Mrs. Williams do?" WWMWD  I remembered her tip on framing and buying mats.  I bought some frames at Target and then took them to our local frame shop to have oversized mats cut to the specifications of the frame.  It was way cheaper this way but it still turned out great.

They went from this:

Still pretty!

To this:

A little more modern!

And there you have a little update ala Gosling and Williams.

Thanks, ladies.

Note from Mrs. Gosling:  YAY for great carpet runners, striped walls and up cycled art.  Your makeover is perfect!

Note from Mrs. Williams:  Your makeover looks amazing!  I love how all the tones from the carpet, stripes, and pictures tie together.

Estate Sale Chair Makeover

Passing Notes Today: Mrs. Williams

Hi Girls,

I've written it before and I'll write it again - estate sales - I'm hooked.  When I'm at an estate sale one of my favorite places to find deals and diamonds in the rough is by searching in basements and garages.  That's exactly where I found this chair (stuck far in the back of a dusty garage).

When I found it, I couldn't wait to hand over my $5 and start the chair's makeover.
I cleaned the frame with a TSP substitute first.

Then, I spray painted like crazy.

The first step of recovering the seat cushion was taking out all the old staples securing the existing fabric down.

Look at all those staple holes - no fun!

Then, I stapled new fabric onto the cushion.
Once the paint was dry, I plopped the cushion back down and the chair was done.

I'm really happy with the chair.  It's going to look great with a desk or as an accent to a room, I just know it.

Can't wait for the next estate sale,

Note from Mrs. Kelly:  You make it look so easy!

Note from Mrs. Gosling:  Love the texture in the chair fabric.  Very pretty and extra seating is always a plus.  Thanks!

Halloween Party Details

Passing Notes Today:  Mrs. Kelly & Mrs. Beckham

David Beckham on his was to Pumpkinpalooza.
My friend, Mrs. Beckham (Kate), hosted the cutest pumpkin party last week.  The Beckhams actually have their own pumpkin patch and generously decided to share their harvest!  Their fall gathering (or Pumpkinpalooza as they affectionately called it) was filled with lots of cute details.  I thought I would share them with you, via my instagram photos, in case you're looking for some inspiration.

Corn husks decorated the gate as we entered!

I love the presentation with the vases here.  One vase is filled with glow sticks for Halloween night and the other is filled with super cute straws.  My friend bought a few yards of burlap from JoAnn's to use as a tablecloth.  Oh, and milk jug ghosts dotted the tablescape. Easy, affordable and boo-tiful.

More ghosts, delicious pumpkin cookies and donut holes.  It was one delicious fall spread!

Do you love this cider container as much as I do? I mean, look at the apples.  My little guy could not get enough of this!

Witch hat cookies made with a keebler stripe cookie, hershey kiss and frosting.  So cute!

Spider cupcakes.  The only time you'll love spiders.

Bales of hay were spread around the lawn for additional seating.

Something for the kids to burn energy!

The trees were rather spooky. Check them out!

And finally, the showstopper...

We had such a great time!  I hope some day I can return the favor--but I can't even grow my bangs out so I'm doubtful I'll have much success with a pumpkin crop.

A girl can hope!

PS.  I made it through that entire post without any reference to bending it...

Note from Mrs. Williams:  That party looked spooktacular!

Note from Mrs. Gosling:  you had me at milk ghosts ... You had me at milk ghosts!

Just batty

Passing Notes Today:  Mrs. Gosling

I love Country Living magazine

Truth be told, I love most magazines.  I like to dog ear the pages, rip them out, even save them for years.  I find inspiration, season to season, through magazines.  Especially, in the fall.  Fall is a great time of year for decorating because you have time to re-acquaint yourself, with your house.  The heat subsides, the kids are off to school and holiday decor is in full swing.  Just this past weekend, I did a major edit job on our holiday chochkes.  I good willed 75% of what we had ( Mrs. K - if you find matching pumpkins that light up at GW .... This girl).  I was over my old stuff and hoping to keep it super simple.

Just as I thought how can I start fresh for Halloween ... I saw this on the table.

Strong, confident and bold!  I like the contrast of white and black

I got to thinking.  How could I incorporate black halloween decor without really trying.  So, I called my sister, Mrs. Presley.
I told her how much I loved the bats above her fireplace last year and how much I would love them above mine, more.  I asked, she agreed.  PERFECT!

I would like to say I have a step by step on how she cut them out.  If I were to do them, I would:

1 - find a bat image on google
2 - print that out and cut
3 - transfer to a gazillion black sheets
4 - cut

But, Mrs. Presley has mad skills and she probably did it while making dinner, doing laundry and drinking coffee!

Here they are in all their glory

And here is what I felt like when I walked around the house that night to turn off all the lights

minus the blonde hair, blue polyester suit and perfect lip liner.  You get the picture ....

Happy Halloween,

Note from Mrs. Kelly:  Do you think you or your sister could cut up mini Gene Kelly silhouettes that I could put up for Valentine's day?  I'm giving you notice.  The bats are so fun!

Master of Vignettes

Passing Notes Today: Mrs. Williams

Hi Mrs. Kelly and Mrs. Gosling,

Remember how I mentioned our family road trip to Ohio this summer?  During our Great Tour of Ohio, we visited lots of people we loved, like my cousin, Sarah.

I couldn't wait to see her, I mean her house, well, of course her, too.  Seriously, touring her home was one of the highlights of the trip.  Her house is amazingly pulled together and everything I would want my own home to be.  Sarah has a ton of talents and one of them is home decorating and creating the best vignettes of accessories.  Check out some of the vignettes I snapped while at her house (in between the moments when I pointed at everything and was like, "I want this!").

Turns out there's no place like your cousin's home,

P.S.  Sarah's a Naptime Notebook regular.  You can read more about her here, here, here, and here.

Note from Mrs. Kelly:  So fun.  Love the details.  I want more!  What's in the Lance container?  The shoes are the coolest!   Yes, you are related.  Thanks for sharing Sarah!
